

Robert's childhood was spent living in Corvallis, Lebanon, Lewisburg and Portland, Oregon. At 9 years of age while attending Mt. Tabor grade school he was selected to be a prince in the Junior Rose Festival Court held every year in Portland, Oregon. In 1952 Robert graduated from Corvallis High School.
Robert served 9 years in the Oregon National Guard in the headquarters. Company, 162nd Infantry Regiment. He served from June of 1951 through June of 1960, being Honorably Discharged at the rank of Sergeant E-5.
Robert attended college for a short period of time before starting his career as a Dental Technician in the office of Dr. Harry Semler in downtown Portland, Oregon.
Robert married Martha Ann Schroeder on August 20", 1955. Parenthood soon followed with the birth of daughter Laurie in 1957 and son Michael in 1959.
Robert and Martha purchased their first home in the Rockwood neighborhood. During these years Robert loved family camping and fishing trips to the beach, central Oregon and the Mt. Hood area. Nearby Glendoveer golf course was Robert's favorite place to play golf and enjoy the friendship of his golfing partners.
In 1969 their dream home was built on 5 beautiful acres near Oxbow Park. Robert loved their property and the abundant wildlife. He enjoyed working every day outside to create and maintain a park-like setting for family and animals to call home.
Robert loved building the tree house and playhouse for his 3 grandchildren along with helping Martha prepare for holiday gatherings and family celebrations. Robert and Martha enjoyed attending their grandchildren's sporting events and school musical concerts.
The highlight of each day was feeding and befriending the herd of deer living on and around their property. As he mowed/manicured the several acres of lawn around the house his canine companion, Taylor was always by his side. Robert's fondest memories were made caring for family and nature on their beloved 5-acre piece of heaven.
In their early 80's Robert and Martha moved to Courtyard Senior Living in Gresham, Oregon. In March of 2023 they moved to Powell Valley Living in Gresham, Oregon.
Throughout their marriage, Robert and Martha attended church services and bible studies at Hinson Memorial Baptist Church and at Good Shepard Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Martha Allen, his brother Melvin Allen, and his nephew Scott Allen.
Robert is survived by his children, Laurie Swan (Steven) and Michael Allen (Cindy); grandchildren Jordan Allen (Dawn), Daniel Allen, Sarah Allen (Zack) and Renee Farrell (Brian), great-granddaughter Larkin Grimes, sister-in-law Jackie Meyers (Dennis), nephew Mark Allen (Michelle) and their children Blake and Hunter, and Scott Allen's children, Kaitlin Moroney, Jared Allen, Colton Allen, and Meghan Allen.
