Robert Gary Daniels, Sr. passed away on July 6, 2025, in West Linn, Oregon, at the age of 83. Born on April 30, 1942, in Potsdam, New York, to Martin Gordon Daniels and Roana Victoria Matthie, Robert lived a life marked by service to his country, dedication to his craft, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
At the age of 19, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force in August 1961 in Syracuse, New York. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and advanced technical training at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. Serving as a Bomarc Missile Technician during a pivotal time in American history, he was stationed at Riverhead Missile Base on Long Island during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His military career continued with specialized training on Hughes GAR missiles at Lowry AFB in Denver before being stationed at Paine Field in Washington. He was honorably discharged from active duty in August 1965.
Following his active service, Robert joined the Washington National Guard and transitioned into civilian life with a career at Boeing Aircraft. His professional journey took him from New York to Oregon in 1987, where he applied his mechanical engineering expertise to machinery design for box manufacturing. He held an Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and brought skill and commitment to every role he undertook.
In 1975, while working in Colombia, South America, Robert met Dora. They married in 1976 and built a life together centered around family and shared passions. Together they raised their two sons, Jack & Robert “Bobby” Daniels Jr., and found joy in many pursuits—especially their mutual love of baseball.
Robert’s interests reflected his adventurous spirit and appreciation for nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, photography, and riding his beloved 1985 Honda Goldwing motorcycle. A devoted fan of Western films, he especially admired those starring John Wayne.
In recent years, Robert found deep joy and purpose within his community, spending countless cherished hours at the Canby Adult Center—a place he truly loved and often visited for lunch and companionship—and faithfully attending Canby Alliance Church, where he felt a strong sense of belonging and spiritual connection.
He is survived by his wife Dora Daniels and their son, Jack Daniels.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a tribute to a life well lived.
A Celebration of Life for Robert with Military Honors will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Canby Adult Center, 1250 S Ivy St, Canby, OR 97013.
