Robert “Bob” Walter Ferguson of Hillsboro, Oregon was born on August 14, 1942 in Hillsboro, Oregon to parents Edward Ferguson and Mildred “Millie” (Herrold) Ferguson. Bob graduated from Hillsboro High School. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Bob started Talisman, his own truck canopy business in 1969, out of his garage 5 miles south of Hillsboro. Manufacturing and sales expanded on the family property and Talisman grew to be known as the local preferred provider of truck canopies. In 1986, the business was renamed to Bob Top Canopies when a retail shop was established in Hillsboro, and re-located on TV Highway in 1991 at SE 48th Avenue. Known for his customer-oriented service, Bob managed Bob Top Canopies 6 days a week until his death on April 3, 2017. He was known to say to his grandchildren that “every day is a holiday at Bob Top”.
With his wife Pam at his side, Bob’s main hobbies were vegetable gardening and wine-making at his country home. Although his garden was abundant in zucchini and tomatoes that he gave out freely to all that stopped by, his passion was to harvest sweet cantaloupe. He enjoyed vacationing at the coast of Oregon, especially in Lincoln City. Whenever there was an opportunity, Bob would be happy to discuss politics with anyone, both on the local and national level. Bob was quite a craftsman, building two homes on the family property. He also dabbled in raising pigs, camping and fishing when he wasn’t working.
Bob is survived by his mother Mildred Augusta Ferguson; children: Tamra Van Steenburgh, Tom and Lynne Fergusson, and Richard and Michelle Fergusson; step children: Mike Weisenbach, Alan Weisenbach and Carolyn Losinger; grandchildren: Ethan Van Steenburgh, Gavin Van Steenburgh, Hayden Van Steenburgh, Drew Fergusson, Ally Fergusson, and Daphne Fergusson; and step grandchildren: Brandon Weisenbach, Wendy Landolt, Jennifer Thompson, and Joshua Losinger. He was preceded in death by his wife Pamela Jean Fergusson, father Edward Sydney Ferguson, and sister Margaret Mary Ferguson West.
