Bob was raised in Portland and he attended Kellog Elementary School and Franklin High School (although most of his high school friends attended Cleveland High). He began working part time for First National Bank of Oregon in 1953. He graduated from Franklin in 1955.
Bob entered into the service of the Oregon Air National Guard in June of 1955. He served as an airman until his honorable discharge in June of 1961.
Following high school graduation, Bob went on to work full time for First National Bank of Oregon and he remained at First National until 1967 upon which time he went to work for First National Bank of California. In 1984, Bob went to work for the FDIC in 1986 served them until 1998. Bob retired in 1999.
In total, Bob worked for 28 years in the banking industry and served the FDIC for 12 years. At First National Bank of California, he served as the manager of the accounting department and credit department. Also while with Bank of California, Bob served as Junior Achievement Advisor from 1971-1972 as well as UGN Loan Executive in 1974. While with FDIC, Bob was hired as a liquidation account officer in several failed bank receiverships. Also during his 12 years with FDIC, Bob was awarded several achievement awards for outstanding performance, including employee of the month in the entire Western States region.
Bob performed civic duties as a member of United States Jaycees. As a Jaycee, Bob served on the board of directors, was a chairman of the Americanism committee, and was awarded Jaycee of the Month in 1971 and a Consistent Achievement award in 1970.
Bob’s main passion in life was for his work and he truly enjoyed his time in the banking industry. He did hold interests and hobbies outside of the world of finance however. He loved working on restoring classic cars. Bob restored a 1953 Chevy, a 1962 Maserati Roadster, and a 1978 Cadillac Seville to name a few cars that Bob worked on over the years. He also had an incredible collection of miniature cars and electric trains that he proudly displayed in the great room of his home. He was a pet lover as well and had special dog companions. Nicky and Misty were both black labs and his current dog, also named Misty is a pit bull / lab mix.
Bob was a wonderful son, brother, co-worker, and loyal friend, and he will be missed by those left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life and memory.
