Bob passed away peacefully on December 12 in the loving care of Senior Haven Residential Care Facility from complications of congestive heart failure.
Bob was born in Lynn Massachusetts where he attended elementary and junior high school. The family relocated to Portland Oregon where he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1946. “Boston Bob” was known as a “swell guy.”
Bob served in the Army from 1946 – 1948. He earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan. He served in the Air Force Reserve from 1951 – 1954 earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bob married Janiece Marilyn Evey on September 2, 1954. They had two daughters, Karen Jean, Becky Suzanne, and a son, William Edward.
Bob worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and Supervisor in Portland; retiring in 1984. He was a member of the National Association of Postal Supervisors.
Bob was a devoted family man, and loyal friend. He is survived by his wife, Jan, daughters Karen Day (Chuck) of Montgomery, Texas; Becky Larson (Brian) of Portland, four Granddaughters, Jennifer Gibson of Littleton, Colorado, Julenne Moore (Jay) of Dillon, Colorado, Briana and Brooke Larson of Portland, and two great granddaughters, Valerie and Kayle Gibson of Littleton, Colorado. He is also survived by his brother, Laurence Swann Jr. of Portland, sister, Nancy Lamke (Eugene) of Vancouver, Washington and other family members and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Edith Swann, and son, William Edward.
Bob especially enjoyed salmon fishing on the Oregon Coast with his brother-in-law, Gene; playing and watching football, and golf & bowling. He refereed high school football in Portland for several years.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 10:00 am at Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes. He will be honored for his military service at Willamette National Cemetery following the celebration. All are invited to attend.
