Ronald was born in Anniston, Alabama in 1941. He was the oldest of twin boys born that cool morning in November. His brother was Donald and they were very close all their lives. Both joined the US Marine Corps in the early 1960's and married women from New York City.
About 1984 or thereabouts, Ronald moved to Portland and made this his home. He was a long haul truck driver for many years until he thought he wanted to be a barber. He owned his own shop for awhile but had to sell it and go on disability.
Ronald was loved by his nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters. He made people smile wherever he went, as he was very outgoing and sociable. He will be sorely missed by his sister, Mary Ann and her family with whom he lived off and on when he first came to Portland.
Growing up in Alabama, he was just a big ole barrel of fun. Played football with the boys, and went to the mountains and played wagon train with them, loved baseball, monopoly and singing and playing golf.
Ronald is survived by two children, Ronnie and Michelle, two sisters, Mary Ann Sims of Portland and Brenda Leake of Greenville, SC, and 1 brother, Donald Burney of Clifton, NJ. Many nieces and nephews that live in Oregon, Washington, Alabama, South Carolina and New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his father, William Burney, mother, Ida Burney, grandmother, Mary McCullars, brothers, Charles (Billy) Burney, Lamar Burney and Michael Burney and sister, Frances McNeal.
I know Ronadl was saved as a young man and that now he has met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, He was met in heaven by his mama, grandma, brothers and sister and a favorite uncle who gave him the nickname Bull. We grew up in the 40's and 50's and while times were not easy, we always had a good home life.
Ronald, I tried to do my best for you, wherever you were. I will miss you, brother, and look forward to seeing you again in Heaven. Perhaps you, Frances, Lamar, Billy and Mike Burney will be there to guide me across the River when my time comes. Until then, I love you.
Mary Ann
