24 June 1937 - 27 May 2011
Ruth was a long time Oregon City resident who served as Cub Scout Den Mother, Den Mother Coach, Girl Scout Leader, School Bus Driver and Service Person for Oregon City School District. She also owned and operated successful businesses such as Ruth’s Firewood, Ruth’s Nic-Nacs & More and was a long time vendor at #1 Flea Market in Portland.
Ruth was born in Falls City, Oregon in 1937 and moved up and down the west coast with her family until settling in Aberdeen Washington when she was 10 or 11 yrs old. She left Washington in her early 20's and moved to Eugene, Oregon and then to Redland Oregon where she met and Married Earl Phillips, her husband of more than 40 yrs, in 1962. They moved to Oregon City in 1963 and she remained in the same home until her passing.
Ruth was an amazing and talented woman with an almost larger than life persona and a heart of gold. She was a force to be reckoned with and a shoulder to cry on when needed and could transition from one to the other with ease. She was an accomplished Violinist, Artist, Mechanic, Bus Driver, Logger, Business Women, Mother, Wife, Sister and Friend. She excelled at whatever she put her mind to and the more opposition she faced the more determined she was to succeed. She was as much at home running her 32 in. bar chain saw cutting firewood as she was landing salmon on the Kenai in Alaska or wearing a dress and heels at dinner or out dancing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl and brother Paul. She is survived by her Sister Doris and Brother Melford, five children; John, David, Mike, Loretta and Danny, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandkids. She left an indelible mark on all who came in contact with her and she will be fondly remembered and eternally missed.
We Love You Mom.
