Sharlee grew up in Florence, Ore. where she graduated from Siuslaw High School, class of 1956.
While working at Boeing in Seattle, Wash., Sharlee met her first husband, to whom she was married from 1960 to 1990. In 1992, she married Warren Bortz, whom she met at Mt. Hood Beverage in Portland, Ore., where they both worked. The two were together until he passed in 1999.
She worked several clerical/accounting jobs. She was always a steady and dependable provider. Her job in the accounting department of Mt. Hood Beverage, stayed with her until she retired in May of 2005.
Sharlee was a member of Cedar Hills United Church of Christ, where she attended services with her life-long friend, Donna Parsons.
She had a special fondness for animals. In her opinion, a house wasn’t a home without a cat.
Being a woman of few words, Sharlee’s love could best be found in her actions. She was the cherished matriarch of her family; an example of patience and grace.
Sharlee is survived by her brother, Philip Tompkins; sons, Philip Barden and Patrick (Sherri) Barden; granddaughters, Jessica Ashing and Brianna Ross; grandsons, Zayne Barden and Zachary Fenton; and seven great-grandchildren.
A committal service will be held at 2:15pm on Wednesday, September 11th at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland.
