Steve Alvin Hayes, 47, was born in Portland, Oregon. The second of five children born to Steve and Carol Hayes, he was their first son. He attended Peninsula Grade School, Heights Junior High and Parkrose High School.
Steve grew up active in his church and learned many things that nurtured his natural love and concern for others, putting them far above himself. This was an endearing characteristic that he exhibited his whole life.
As a young man he was active in sports with his church as well as Little League teams, often with his brother, Chris and sister, Sandy as teammates. They were fortunate enough to be coached by their own father.
As Steve grew older he started to really exhibit his uniqueness and individuality that people grew to know, love (or question) and accept as what would from then on be “Steve.”
Steve had a great love – actual passion for music. He shared that with many friends and appreciated music for the artistry that he saw it to be. Several of his friends became involved in different aspects of music which allowed him to experience it from many angles. Those closest to him at this time and until now all have special memories of what they shared with him.
As a bartender, and experience in this industry, he was able to meet many people who eventually became special, longtime friends. His family is very grateful at this time for their remembrances of him as he had been a part of their lives.
Steve had a special spirit that was unlike any other. Those that know him or were touched by him know exactly what this means. That crooked smile he had as a young boy stayed with him as a man. His trademark cowboy hat, boots, vintage clothing and artful yet simple jewelry were always a part of him. He walked with a “sound” that I think we will always hear.
Our hope is that Steve can now begin his recovery and join his father to become stronger spirits for their family’s memory. His peace should give us all our own personal peace that will eventually come in time. God, please bless Steve and take care of a son, brother, uncle and friend that will be sorely missed but always remembered.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Carol Ramey; sister Sandra Young and her husband Mark; brother Chris Hayes and his wife Kori; brother Tim Hayes; brother Jason Hayes and his wife Stephanie; sister Alee Noland and her husband Nate; as well as, 1 niece and 4 nephews.
