

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sultan Rasheid Blackman, Jr., who was born on December 12, 1992, at Northlake Regional Hospital in Tucker, Georgia, to his beloved parents, Ramona Liesel Stewart (Blackman) and Sultan Rasheid Blackman, Sr. He peacefully departed this world on June 3, 2024, at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. Sultan's vibrant legacy is characterized by a life filled with adventure, cherished friendships, and boundless love.
Sultan’s educational journey was a testament to his dedication and hard work. It began in kindergarten at Clayton County Public Schools and continued at Austin Road Elementary School after his family’s move to Henry County. His formative years were marked by active participation in baseball, karate, and Boy Scouts. During his middle school years at Gold Hill Middle School in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Sultan excelled as a musician, playing the baritone and as a dedicated tight end for the school's football team. He later graduated from Hosanna Christian Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he embraced track, cross country, and international travel through the People to People Student Ambassador Program. His academic efforts culminated in receiving the TOPS Tech Award, which led him to attend Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.
Sultan was a unique individual, showcasing his culinary talent in the food service industry and captivating many with his ability to craft delectable dishes using minimal ingredients. An adventurous spirit at heart, he found joy in travel, amusement parks, video games, anime, drawing, and music. His interests ranged from martial arts and fitness to savoring organic and natural foods. Sultan’s witty humor, nerdy charm, and captivating storytelling always brought laughter and joy to those around him. One of his most memorable dishes was his signature stir fry, which he lovingly prepared for every family gathering, bringing everyone together with its delicious taste and the love he put into it.
At the core of Sultan’s world were his cherished family and friends. He held dear companionships with Daniel Billops and Shaquille Burton. Sultan is survived by his loving parents; brothers Stephen T. Jones and Spencer M. Highsmith; stepbrother Tony D. Lyas; stepsister Meredith Scott; stepmother Stacy Scott (Kevin).
His paternal grandparents James and Sharon Blackman, Sr., maternal grandparents Vicellus and Laura Stewart, uncle Warren Stewart (Krista) and his daughter Alexus (Aaliyah, Brooklyn, Dior and Charleigh) and son Lawrence (Jessica) and their sons Camden and Emre; aunt Alisha Blackman Mohr (Cedric); uncle James E. Blackman and his son James Christopher Blackman; aunt Sudanese Worthy and her sons Rashad and Amir Worthy; uncle Cushmeer Blackman and his son Tyrik; uncle Muhammad Blackman, Sr., his wife Ronicia Blackman, and their children Ashley, Muhammad, Jr., Jabril, and King; aunt Zulaikha Blackman-Thomas and her sons Wazir and Nayo Thomas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his uncle Saladin (1988), his aunt Tosha (2017) and his aunt Hikma (2022).
Sultan's memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His spirit continues to shine brightly, a beacon of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. His loss has left a void in our community, a testament to his profound impact on us all. We will forever cherish his memory and strive to live up to the example he set.
