Tilda was born in Richfield, Washington to Ervin M. and Rose A. Peer. While still young her family moved to Linnton, Oregon to live on a house boat where her sister Maxine and brother Howard were born. Tilda went to Holbrook School (between Linnton and Scappoose, Oregon.)
Tilda met Joe Beavers when she lived on the river, they were neighbors but he was older and they were just friends but his mother Minna told her she would like her to marry Joe one day, Tillie laughed and didn’t really pay any attention to Minna’s remarks. Joe moved away then one day many years later Tilda was working at a store in Linton, Minna came in and thought she knew Tilda but didn’t say anything right then. Minna went outside to meet her son Joe at the bus stop. Joe was returning from the war. Just as Joe got off the bus, Tilda was on her way home after work, Minna called to before she left the parking lot. Minna asked her if she was Rose daughter Tilda, yes she respond, then she reintroduced Tilda to Joe and the rest is history
