This morning at 6:30 a.m., we lost our beloved Lori Mark Lund. She passed away peacefully at home after a brave battle with early-onset Frontotemporal Dementia, combined with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by her loving family. She was 65 years old.
Lori was diagnosed in 2022, and the disease first took her ability to speak before rapidly affecting her cognition, memory, motor skills, and autonomic system. I was able to care for Lori at home until the end, with the help of many friends, neighbors, and relatives. Especially supportive were Lori’s daughter, Nicole Irwin Daggett; longtime friend, Lisa Hockman; sister, Tamara Mark Olson and her husband, Marc Olson; along with many others who loved Lori dearly.
Lori was born on March 8, 1960, in Portland, Oregon, to Stanley H. Mark and Beverly J. Mark (Holts). From a young age, she displayed a vibrant spirit, a deep love for sports, and an unwavering dedication to those she cared about. We first met at Beaverton High School, class of 1978, when she asked me to the Mardi Gras (Sadie Hawkins) dance—a moment I never forgot. Thirty-five years later, we reconnected, went on our second date, and soon after, we married.
A remarkable athlete, Lori lettered in soccer, basketball, and softball during her first year at Beaverton High School. She excelled in every sport she tried—waterskiing, diving, track and field, snow skiing, tennis, and many others—mastering each with ease and infectious enthusiasm. At just 19, she began coaching girls’ soccer at Beaverton High School, leading the team to three state championships during her nine years there. Lori continued coaching at Rex Putnam High School, Canby High School (where she coached Nicole), and the Oregon Soccer Academy over her 40-year coaching career. She was beloved and admired by “her girls” for her fierce dedication and compassionate guidance, inspiring countless young women to believe in themselves both on and off the field.
Lori’s warmth, kindness, and humor were unmatched. She loved life and those around her deeply, defending those in need and bringing joy to even the simplest moments. If you knew Lori, you would often see her excitement expressed with a radiant smile, raised shoulders, and hands rubbed together in delight. Her excitement for life was contagious, and she loved her friends and family with everything she had to give.
Lori is survived by her husband, Mike Lund; children, Nicole Daggett, Dominique Lund, and Maia Lund; sisters, Tamara Olson and Michele Mark; and grandson, Stanley Daggett.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 10390 SW Canyon Rd, Beaverton, Oregon, followed by a celebration of life at The Stockpot. Lori will be laid to rest at Skyline Memorial Gardens, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, Oregon. We hope everyone who knew and loved Lori will join us in honoring her life.
In honor of Lori’s memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
She will be missed by all who knew her—and most of all by me. Farewell, my love.
