Vernedia Young Holmes

Vernedia Y. Holmes was born to Blommie and Artie Young in Paris, Texas on August 6, 1930. She was the oldest of four siblings, Curtis Young, Berdie Young Mathies, and Elnora Young Buckner, all preceded her in death. She attended school in Larmar county and her family united with Palestine Baptist church, under the late Rev. Gray, pastor. Vernedia married James L. Holmes in Paris, Texas on May 16,1952 and moved to Littlefield, Texas. They had five children, Michael W. Holmes, Bobby L. Holmes, Blondenia D. Holmes, Delbra L. Holmes, and Loretta K. Holmes. James and Vernedia moved their family to Portland, Oregon in the summer of 1971. Vernedia family united with Vancouver Avenue First Baptist church under the late Dr. O.B. Williams, pastor. Vernedia was a housekeeper and a parentage for foster children. James Holmes, Delbra Holmes, and Michael Holmes preceded her in death. Vernedia departed this journey of life on July 12, 2017 at 12:26 pm. She leaves to mourn her son, Bobbie L. Holmes and her two daughters, Blondenia D. Holmes and Loretta K. Holmes Johnson, all of Portland, Oregon. Seven grandchildren, Carmenita Holmes, Anastacia Holmes, Massie Johnson, DaShaun Johnson, Loretta Kimbrough, LaNora Kimbrough, and Sylvia Holmes. One foster son Alonzo Cardwell, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
