

Vernon Arthur McCarty was born on February 3, 1931 to Lionel Patrick McCarty and Mary Colette O’Kane. He was the 14th of 15 children. He joined his parents and 13 of his siblings encircled in the arms of the Lord on January 2, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth, eight children and spouses, 33 grandchildren and 41 Great Grandchildren and his two sisters, Joan Wacker of Albertville Minnesota and Delores Bryant of Milford, Iowa.
He was an Irishman through and through and always had a spark of Blarney for anyone who he was with. The highlight of his life was his trip to Ireland with his wife that was a gift from his 8 children. He was a Land Developer and a Builder of fine homes, as owner of McCarty Custom. He was well known for his honesty and craftsmanship and had a reputation for helping anyone in need. His life was full of love for his family. He was raised on a farm in Iowa and never lost putting to use the lessons he learned from wonderful parents about hard work, self sacrifice and service. He served his country as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy and was on the USS Point Cruz in the Korean war.
A life-long Catholic, he was an active member of the St. Juan Diego Parish of Beaverton, Oregon. A Mass will be given in his honor on Friday, January 7th at 10:00am with visitation taking place at the church beginning at 9:00am. Internment will be at Willamette National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 11th at 1:00pm.
