Victor Monte Russell was a dynamic, intelligent, deeply caring man with a keen sense of humor. Born in Oregon on November 29, 1935, he and his beloved brother, Doug, told tales through the years of their many high jinx in the Portland area in the 1930’s and 40’s. After high school, Victor spent 10 years in the Navy as a linguistics expert and became fluent in Russian, Chinese, Korean, and German. He later joined the Civil Service and had a long, rewarding career as a Federal employee in Washington DC, finishing his career with a post at the Pentagon. In his “spare” time he played the organ for Christian Science church services twice a week. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 9, 2023. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Lynn Gau-Hilkman (nee Russell), grandchildren Maximilian Gau and August Gau, son-in-law Eric Hilkman, nephew Douglas Monte Russell, niece Angeleen Umfleet, her husband James Umfleet and their children Anna Umfleet and Grace Umfleet.
