I remember Willard as young teenager sitting on my front porch on Franklin St.,  in SE Portland. He was dating my sister at the time. I loved his infectious smile and warm presence. Little did I know that he would become a humble servant of the Lord. I have such nostalgia recalling those days, when I was but 12 years his senior. I knew his sister Carmen.

I had gone to high school with Avel Gordly, who became one of Oregon's great senators. She was instrumental in helping me to save my Great Nephew from foster home(s). 

Such warm and tender moments will always be with me. I heard of Pastor Willard's passing years ago, but just now thought of him again during the riots in Portland, Oregon, amid the George Floyd murder in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  I know he rests in peace in the arms of Jesus Christ.


I awoke this AM, and my mind began to ponder....the condition of our current world; what would God had given to Pastor Hardy to minister about this or that; am I viewing this correctly.  Because of your 'Yes' to the call, I am the woman of God who stands today.  Though you were only a mortal just as I, I'm SO forever grateful for having you as my earthly example and teacher, after our King Ye'shua.  Hopefully you're having great conversation with the other great teachers who've passed onto life everlasting, and with my mom!! LOVE ya Pastor Hardy, my Spiritual father!

How much I appreciated Pastor Hardy for his relationship with Jesus!  He took the time to help set me free from satan and all the bondages from SRA.  No other pastor has ever shown so much compassion towards this tormented soul.  I am forever grateful to Jesus and Pastor Hardy for setting me free!

The world has lost a great legacy leader, but heaven has gained a Giant.

To the Beloved of Dr. W.G. Hardy JR I too am sadden with his home-going; yet rejoicing, knowing that he is home now; oh glory! What a beautiful brother to me in Christ he was. Although only a yr in Highland CC, I was transformed by the teaching and preaching of this amazing, annointed servant of G-D.  I offer heartfelt condolences to the Hardy family over the loss of Dr Hardy,"a man after G-D's own heart".

He was, physically, not a large man.  But spiritually, intellectually, morally, and in our community, he was a giant.

Dear Mrs. Hardy, Brothers and Sisters of WG Hardy the Extended Family, and all at Highland Christian,

I wanted to extend my condolences all of you.  It was an honor to work with your husband on trying to save the precious little babies in the womb and their mothers.  

I think your husband will be a recipient of  a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world -- and they will plead for your husband.  They will say to God, 'Spare him, because he loved us!'"

Why ?  

He was the only pastor who attended the first hearing conducted by Portland Development Commission (PDC).  He calmly asked them to reconsider allowing abortions on MLK.  He came to the second hearing and asked them for a delay in the construction so that the churches and community could have more time.  His requests were denied.

Your husband gallantly spoke at the rally on MLK in May of 2007 and then aroused the hearts of other pastors and brought many of them and their congregations to Life Chain in 2007.  He came and comforted people protesting the Planned Parenthoods ground breaking in late 2008.  He also led the march in early 2009 and cheered on hundred of marches stating,

We march for those who have no choice.
We shout for those who have no voice.

Pastor I can not put into words the significant impact that you have had in me and my families lives. Youve been my pastor  for over 16 years. You are bold, courageous,  faithful,  dedicated,  intelligent,  a visionary, an innovator, a leader and so much more. The work that you have done in and for our community is immeasurable. It's hard to be believe that you have transitioned into heavenly paradise,  but my spirit rejoices that your body no longer suffers and your spirit is with the Lord. Pastor Hardy was a friend, mentor and spiritual father to so many - including me.  He had a huge vision for the City of Portland but that didnt stop him from tending to even the smallest sheep in the flock that God assigned him shepherd.  

Pastor Hardy loved to share his wisdom, loved to pursue spiritual enlightenment and always pressed for improvement in himself and others.  He was a very talented man and carried charisma and self-awareness as a gift.  He shouldered his various burdens so well and Im so proud of the legacy that he left behind.  

Thank you Hardy family for allowing Pastor Hardy to stand in the gap for so many.  Thank you Lord for giving us Pastor Hardy and thank you for welcoming Your good and faithful servant into Your eternal kingdom.  We love you, Pastor Hardy.

A great man of God I  loved his joy for God I love this Joy for the people and the joy he have for his family. Reverend Hardy will be very, very  very well missed .There is no other Pastor in Noth or northeast Portland OR Portland Oregon like him . When it come down to being real in life he was right on point. he gave us what  we needed .when he preached and talked about God's life .Our life and what we need to do for God. he's going to be so well missed I am so grateful that I had the chance to spend my last New Year's with him 12/31/2017. Most important he showed and gave his congregation a new life how to be with God at the very end loving being giving and being very courageous. I know that he is with God he left a great legacy . Such a wonderful family, blessed to be stewards of the Lord. Such an incredible gift, handed down from parents to children. The community has been honored with the presence of this family and their dedication to doing God's work. Dr. Hardy is home! His father is proud! The rest of us must stay on a forward path to get there. Don't let him, and his father before him, and his family's work be in vain. I had the pleasure of going to school with one of Pastor Hardy's amazing son's. Over the last year I had the privilege of taking care of this kind, gentle, caring soul at OHSU.  I am incredibly sorry to hear of his passing and I know that he will continue to watch over and bless his family. 

Wow pastor hardy was my 1st pastor in portland. Highland felt almost like my home church in Temple . Tx.  U will be misded

Dr. Hardy has left a legacy of love and engagment for his church community and the larger community. It was our honor to have known Pastor Hardy and his wonderful family. 

He was a voice for those that had no voice. Dr. Hardy was a presence that stood for justice and inclusion in a world that often excluded many from the protections provided the majority population. Pastor Hardy welcomed all to Highland Christian Center and made them feel welcome. 

Dr. W.G. Hardy, Jr. will live on in the hearts of those who love justice and their fellow people!

May his family find comfort in the community of love he nurtured so well.  Karin and I are sorry we cannot be at Pastor Hardys Home-going, but we will be there in spirit and love.

My friend, I remember sitting in the cafeteria with you and Carmen at lunch as teenagers at Franklin High school. You made me laugh a lot. I remember as a youth and adult you played the organ so well. I am so sad to hear that you are no longer with us physically but I know you are with our Lord and Savior and your spirit lives. You ran this race from the time you were a youth. You will be greatly rewarded. You will be missed.
