Bill graduated from John Marshall High School and attended Portland Community College. He served honorably in the Infantry with the US Army. He met his wife Nam (Cho) while stationed in Korea. While visiting a fellow servicemember’s apartment, he saw Nam doing laundry and told his friend’s wife that he wanted to marry her. They were married on Valentine’s Day, 1969, at the US Embassy in Korea.
Upon his discharge, he worked with his father as an auto body repairman at Kayhill’s Auto Body in SE Portland. He then worked for Tri-Met - first as a bus driver and then as a diesel mechanic - the position he held at retirement.
Bill was a hardworking, dedicated family man who believed in doing the right thing. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed recounting his favorite stories. He liked to spend time with his family and his cats, as well as woodworking, baking, and home renovations. He was honest, caring, and very proud of his family and their accomplishments.
