William Allen Hart Jr., an educator and medical business administrator who combined a lifelong devotion to learning, athletics, and the outdoors with a quiet generosity of spirit, died peacefully on January 18, 2026, in Portland, Ore. He was 80.
Mr. Hart was born on March 21, 1945, in Chanute, Kan., to William Allen Hart Sr. and Patience Gibson. He graduated from Colorado State University and began his professional life in education, a field that reflected both his intellectual curiosity and his deep commitment to young people. He taught Science in Colorado Springs in both Junior and Senior High Schools, as well as teaching Physiology at Pikes Peak Community College.
Mr. Hart became the first Girls Soccer Coach at Doherty High School, in Colorado Springs, and led the girls’ team to a second-place finish in the State Finals in their first year.
He later built a career as a Medical administrator, overseeing Orthopedic practices in Portland, Ore.; Tucson, Ariz.; and Orlando, Fla. Colleagues remembered him as widely respected and well liked, someone who brought a lighthearted, steady leadership to every practice.
Much of Mr. Hart’s life was rooted in Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs, where he raised his family. They later lived in Portland, Tucson, and Orlando. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, camping, and skiing, and was known for taking students on outdoor adventures across Colorado. He also enjoyed golf, especially when it meant time spent with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
To those who knew him best, Mr. Hart was defined less by titles than by temperament. He was smart and generous, loving, gentle, and unfailingly present. He was known for his quick wit, infectious laugh, and kindness. Selfless by nature, he had a way of making others feel at ease, supported, and valued.
Bill is survived by a devoted wife of 51 years, Judy, son, Ryan Hart (Mayu) and daughter, Nicole Lewis, (Andrew); sister, Marilyn Slocum (Denis), and four granddaughters, Emerson and Harper Lewis and Seri and Fia Hart.
Donations in his name may be made to the American Humane Society. A small celebration of life will be held at a later date in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
