William L. “Bear” Saunby was born June 27, 1941 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He was adopted and raised in Portland by his loving parents Muriel S Saunby and Ernest H Saunby and graduated from Wilson High School in 1959. He attended Oregon State.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Pat Saunby, only daughter Kori and 6 month
old kitten Glacier.
His life long career of over 40 years at Don Frank floor covering in Portland and owner/partner in that business gave him the opportunity to serve many customers and contractors along the way which ended in close relationships and friends even after his retirement in 2003.
Bill was in the Army Reserves 1962-68 and was a member of Lake Oswego Country Club and the Milwaukie Elks.
His love of golf was given to him by his mother and he spent much of his childhood at Lake Oswego Country Club being a caddy where his mother played golf. Bill loved to work in the garden where he spent many hours striving to pull every weed and raised vegetables and fruits that he offered to friends and neighbors. He was an avid reader and loved sports especially the annual super-bowl party. Bill loved to travel with wife Pat and daughter Kori where he experienced Europe, the South Pacific, Asia, and Canada. Kona Village and Spain were his favorites. June was the birthday month and all three were off to explore a new adventure and destination.
He spent his final days surrounded by special friends. Special thanks to Don Belshaw, Frank Battaglia , Doug, and Jocelyn Lay, Dr Brian Duty who never forgot him. Thanks to Fred, Jim, Dave, John, Pat and Jim who came to see him. Georgia Duty and Michelle Petersen for their unending love and support. Although Bill was raised as an only child, his amazing friendships meant that he was never alone.
The family would like to thank the outstanding nursing staff on 3D at Meridian Park and Dr Sliger for their care, compassion, and support. Donations can be directed to Meridian Park Hospital.
