William was born June 22, 1915 in Portland, Oregon, the 2nd of six sons of Charles and Laura Wecks.
As a child born into a godly Christian home, Bill was saved as far back as he could remember. He was taken to church regularly and learned the Word of God at a very early age.
On the day that Beulah Gerig graduated from the second class at Multnomah School of the Bible in 1940, Bill and Beulah announced their engagement to be married that same year.
Bill, Ralph, James, and Earl helped their dad Charles in logging timber and in the Portland sawmill. In 1961, Bill and Beulah moved to Albany Oregon to start a new company, Albany Concrete Products. In 1968 they moved back to Gresham and Bill resumed logging with Ralph, Jimmy, and Earl until Bill retired from logging in 1980.
Bill and Beulah lived in Portland and attended Central Bible Church for 21 years before moving to Albany, Oregon from 1961-1968. Bill became a beloved Bible teacher at North Albany Baptist Church. Then they returned to remain in Portland and to again minister at Central Bible Church both as Bible Teacher and Associate Pastor.
Bill also served on the Board for Trout Creek Bible Camp, including time as Board Chairman, and he mentored current Camp Director Joe Fahlman.
Bill and Beulah’s children David and Ruth, were only three and one years old in September of 1944 when Beulah spent four months in the hospital with tuberculosis. Five years later, their son John was born. The move in 1961 brought several challenges to the family. In 1966 Beulah had major cancer surgery that flared up several times during the next 35 years of their marriage, and Bill supported her through it all until the Lord took Beulah home in November of 2001.
Bill continued to teach a Bible class at Central Bible Church for several years. Then, he began meeting with different men for 4 different mentoring sessions each week during the last several years, including sessions at Hazelwood Retirement Community for the last 4 years.
After two heart episodes similar to congestive heart failure, Bill continued to receive care at his apartment in the Retirement center. He was placed on “in home” hospice for a little over a week when he passed into the Lord’s presence Wednesday night 10:50 pm, March 19, 2014.
Bill is survived by his three children, David, Ruth, and John, all in the greater Portland area, five grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Memorial gifts can be designated for the ministry of Central Bible Church, or Trout Creek Bible Camp.
Arrangements under the direction of Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Portland, OR.
