He Joined the Army Air Corps with the 5th Air Force, 380th ( The Flying Circus) bomb group in the South Pacific, due to his size, he was selected to be a nose gunner. He flew 44 missions.
After the war, he returned to Oklahoma, but was called back into service during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1953.
He married Leona Ryan in Reno, NV on December 9, 1985 and made their home in Cedar Mill area.
Bill spent 18 years delivering Meals on Wheels in NW Portland area. He joined a senior bowling league and bowled with his bowler friends at Sunset Lanes.
He died of pneumonia and heart failure October 4th at St. Vincent’s Hosptial surrounded by his wife of 31 years and family. A memorial service will be held October 21st at 1 pm at Oak Hills Community Church 2800 Nw 153rd Avenue, Beaverton, Oregon.
