Young Soon Chon, 82, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. She was surrounded by her husband and daughter, the loves of her life. Born in Incheon, South Korea, on April 8, 1943, Young Soon followed her mother’s footsteps and migrated to the U.S. territory of Guam in 1977, where she met her husband of 48 years. She built an impactful life marked by a beautiful family and many lasting friendships. With her sharp mind and vision, she successfully owned three small businesses throughout her 31 years on the island. In 2008, she and her husband retired to the Pacific Northwest, where they lived happily for 17 years.
A doting wife and mother, Young Soon was a source of unwavering joy and support for her family. Her integrity, kindness, and optimism were known to all, and many were struck by her clear eyes and bright smile. Faith was the cornerstone of her life, and her devotion to God flourished within the loving congregation of Eden Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deaconess. Her lively nature shone through various hobbies, from snorkeling in the ocean to collecting seashells, gardening, and exploring the serene trails of this area. Most of all, she cherished creating memories with her beloved family of three. Young Soon is survived by her husband, Hui Man Chon; her daughter, Alicia; her sister, Agatha (John) Kim; her brothers, Thomas (Monica) Jung and Felix (Cecilia) Jung; and her nieces and nephews who were near and dear to her heart. She is preceded in death by her mother, Agatha Han, and father, Tae Kwan Cho.
Services will take place at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 10 am.
Young Soon’s warmth, strength, and vibrant spirit remain an enduring part of her legacy, and she will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
