

Graveside services for Gordon B. “Gordy” Stevens, age 84 of Potsdam, will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday (June 17, 2015) at the Garfield Cemetery. Gordy passed away on Wednesday (June10, 2015) at the Canton Potsdam Hospital.
Surviving are his companion of 30 years Belva Clough; stepson Jeffery Clough of Potsdam ; stepdaughters Debra and Michael Fleury of Potsdam, Susan Davis of Rensselaer Falls, Laura Steinburg and Lisa Burns both of Potsdam; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son; Brothers Ruben, Gerald, Vyron Jr and Carl.
Gordy was born on May 27, 1931 in DeKalb, a son of the late Vyron and Martha Bice Stevens Sr. He attended Madrid school until he turned 17 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Army from May 27, 1948 until June 25, 1951, then re-enlisted June 26, 1951 to April 8, 1954 and then re-enlisted on April 9, 1954 to September 14, 1955. After his Military career he spent the rest of his career as a truck driver for Walsh Trucking. After retiring from truck driving he became a handy man doing odd jobs for anybody. A marriage to Juanita Stevens ended in divorce.
Gordon was a proud 32 year sober member of Alcoholic Anonymous where he attended regular meeting until he became ill.
