

Helen E. South, born February 9th, 1936 and passed away on January 11, 2026. Daughter of Alton Parish and Kate Parish, Sister of Alton Parish and Kate Redd, wife of Bob South, mother of Robert David South, and Ben South. Helen was born in Denison, Texas and grew up in the Oak Cliff part of Dallas. She was the first member of her family to graduate from college. In the late 1950s, after graduation from Mary Hardin Baylor with a degree in Fine Arts, Helen was working as an elementary school art teacher when she met and married then Texas Instruments engineer Robert Francis South in Dallas. They raised a family at 6256 Stefani Drive in Dallas, Texas, then moved to Taos, New Mexico after Bob sold his business and retired. They lived a long happy 30 years there until his death in 2015, after which she moved to Denison for her final years. She died in her home there and requested a green burial under a maple tree in New York with her husband's ashes. She is survived by sons Ben South, of Plano, Texas and Robert David South of Watertown, New York. She will be buried at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam, New York. Helen was a teacher, an artist, and an activist. Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Service. There will be a graveside service for Helen at 2pm on Friday, January 16th at the Bayside Cemetery.
