Mrs. Judith M. Fetcie, age 77 of Potsdam, NY passed away on July 5, 2018 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by her loving family. There will be a mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, July 10th at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam with Rev. Stephen Rocker celebrant. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Monday, July 9th from 4-7pm. Judy was born September 12,1940 in a farmhouse in Parishville, NY, the daughter of the late Roy Grant and Myrtle Laiton. Judy graduated from Potsdam Central High School in 1958 and went to work that year at Potsdam Hospital, where she enjoyed a 50 years career as a nurse aid and central supply aid, retiring in 2008. She married Michael Fetcie at St. Mary’s church in Potsdam on October 10, 1959, they were married over 40 years until Michael’s passing in August 2000. Judy was a loving mother to their children, Larry (Sue Gerrish) Fetcie, Potsdam, Paul (Sarah Thomas) Fetcie, Victor, NY, Thomas Fetcie, Potsdam, NY and Lisa (Tom) Heins, Essex Jct., VT.
In addition to her children and their spouses, Judy is survived by her grandchildren, Meg James, Canton, NY, Katie Fetcie, New York, NY, Emily Fetcie, Potsdam, NY, Erica Fetcie and Kayla Fetcie, Victor, NY, and Sam Heins, Essex Jct., VT. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Ava Fetcie, Owen Fennell and Everett Fennell, Potsdam, NY, and Theo James of Canton, NY. Several nieces and nephews and special nephews Steve and Brian Fetcie of Potsdam, who were like sons to her. Judy was predeceased by her siblings, Roy Grant, Elizabeth Planty, Blanche Tyo, Alexander Grant and her sister in law and lifelong best friend Elaine Fetcie.
Judy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, co-worker and friend. She always greeted others with her beautiful warm friendly smile. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was always available to anyone in a time of need. She will be missed dearly by the many people who were fortunate to have her as part of their life.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations in her name be made to the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Canton Potsdam Hospital Guild.
