Graveside Services for Richard J. Olmstead, 62, of Potsdam will be held at 3:45pm on Friday, May 17, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Colton, NY with Rev. Stephen Rocker officiating. Richard passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 14, 2019 with his loving family by his side.
Richard is survived by brothers John (Rini McFerran) Olmstead of DeGrasse and Dan Olmstead of Potsdam, and sisters Mary Thisse of Madrid and Pam Poste of Parishville.
He was predeceased by brothers Gary, Tom “Toady” Olmstead, and Michael Olmstead.
Richard was born on April 26, 1957, a son of the late John “Buddy” and Grace (Sevey) Olmstead in Potsdam, NY. He graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School and enlisted in the Army where he served as a cook for 5 years. After discharge, Richard moved to New Jersey where he began his career of 25 years as a cook at Princeton University, he retired in 2012 and moved back to Potsdam to be closer to friends and family.
Richard enjoyed socializing and spending time with friends, watching old movies and soaps on TV, joking around, cooking at home for his family and in more recent years having them cook for him.
