Marie was born in Moss Point, Mississippi, and went on to build a life centered around family, hard work, and deep connections with those around her. She was a woman known for her strong spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love for her people.
Marie shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Leigh T. Galbraith, and was the proud mother of three children: daughters Lisa Holstein (Jeff Duncan) and Suzanne Brink (David), and son Dale Galbraith. She was a loving grandmother to Brittany Brink (Stephanie Wright) and Brian Brink (David Reza), a cherished bonus grandmother to Melissa Champion Bagwell, and a delighted great-grandmother to Kade Crotwell. Her grandchildren were her whole world, and she spoiled them joyfully and without apology.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Benson and Mary Benson; her brother, Cecil Benson; her sister, Pauline; and her parents-in-law, Albert T. Galbraith and Hilda Galbraith.
Marie was fiercely devoted to her family and was equally loved by her community. For more than 40 years, she served customers at Jim’s Restaurant, where she became much more than a waitress — she was a friend, a constant, and a familiar smile to generations of patrons. To many, she was simply “Mawmaw,” whether by blood or by love.
An informal celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Rideout’s Chapel in Prattville, Alabama. Family and friends are invited to come together to remember, celebrate, and honor a woman whose love touched countless lives.
Marie will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, strength, and the way she made everyone feel like family.
