Please accept my condolences on the loss of Senior Chief Gutierrez. Senior was my first Leading Petty Officer when I transferred from the Deck Dept to the Signal Bridge on the USS Eldorado AGC11 during my time onboard from the Dec 1966 to Jun 1970. I went on the retired from the Navy myself as a Master Chief after serving nearly 34 years. It was leaders such as the Senior that helped me to become the Master Chief and I remember him well. Dear Aunt Betty, Jimmy & Karen,
My sincere condolences.  Although we have not been in touch for many years I do have wonderful memories of fun times spent together. I hope knowing that Uncle Gil is in heaven gives you great comfort, as he is no longer suffering.

You served your country, were a loving husband and father. You are a true American hero. It was a great honor to be with you in your last hours. My thoughts and prayers are with Betty, Jimmy and Karen as they mourn your loss.

It is always sad to lose someone from the USS Eldorado family. I just dropped by to tell you that, even though we served aboard the USS Eldorado at different times, that he served with honor and dedication, the benchmark of Eldorado. That ship was good enough that I chose to re-enlist for the opportunity to stay aboard. So five of my Navy years were in Eldorado and I was always keenly aware of her historical significance in Naval history. I remain proud to have served in the shadow of those who went before me, especially those like Gilbert Gutierrez.
