

GILL, Howard Vernon Major (ret) U.S.A.F., 86, a Prattville resident, passed away Wednesday August 8, 2012. Memorial services will be held Tuesday August 21 at 3:00 PM at the Sam Gibbons Masonic Lodge # 639, 2441 U. S. Hwy 31 North, Deatsville, Alabama. Burial will be at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery, Colorado Spring, Colorado.
Major Gill was born in California on February 14, 1926 to the late Harley H. and Eva Hobson Gill. He served in the U.S. Air Force for twenty-two years which included flying fifty combat missions during the Korean War. He was later a faculty member at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and Past Master of the Ft. Jones Masonic Lodge in California and a member of the Mosquito Association (Korean War veteran pilots). He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary L. Gill and a daughter, Linda L. LeBlanc. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Howard (Jr.) and Barbara Gill of Prattville, Alabama, a daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Gary Porter of Littleton, Colorado. Eight grandchildren, Edward Weimer, Christopher Weimer, Lonnie LeBlanc, Joshua Hood, Cassie Hood, Sarah Gill, Timothy Gill, Samuel Gill and a host of great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
