Services will be held on Saturday, April 26, at Bethesda Baptist Church in Independence AL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by services at 11:00 AM, officiated by Brother Bruce Coker.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charlie Hugh Stringer, former pastor of Bethesda Baptist Church; parents, John L. and Mary Orelia DeRamus; sister, Yvonne DeRamus Smith; beloved in-laws Charlie M. and Olean Bowden Stringer.
Surviving Mrs. Stringer are her children, Deborah Stringer McCoy (Wes) of Marietta GA, Dr. Alethia Stringer Gaines (Dr. Ronald Gaines) of Mobile AL; beloved grandchildren, Ben Gaines (Dr. Sydney Middleton) of Dallas TX, and Sarah Gaines of Littleton CO. She is also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and former students, all of whom she loved.
Joyce is a graduate of Hicks Memorial School and Howard College (now Samford). Joyce served thirty years as a teacher at Maplesville High School, Prattville Intermediate/Junior High, and Autauga Academy. She loved her church and loved serving her community.
Bethesda Baptist Church and the Independence community have been very important throughout her life. This is where she was born, grew up, married, built their home, raised their family, farmed, taught school, and now she returns home.
