Patricia Wingard Chambliss, age 76, a resident of Prattville, Alabama, and formerly of Mobile, Alabama, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, February 28th after an extended illness.
Visitation will be at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel located at 347 East Main Street on Friday, March 4 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm. A private burial service will follow the funeral.
Mrs. Chambliss is survived by her husband Clyde Chambliss, Sr.; her mother, Mary Elizabeth Wingard; three sisters, Linda Wingard Parrish (Roy), Carol Wingard Monfee, and Brenda Wingard Lafogg; three children, Cheryl Chambliss Powell (Buddy), Clyde Chambliss, Jr. (Tara), and Janet Chambliss Duncan (Jeff); seven grandchildren, Tyler Ray (Emily), Meagan Ray Alderton (Jesse), Ethan Powell, Aaron Powell, Kristen Chambliss Harris (Cameron), Lauren Chambliss, and Madison Chambliss; and two great grandchildren, Waylon Ray (1) and Ava Harris (1); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Samuel Wingard; two brothers, John Wayne Wingard (Judy), and Timothy Wingard.
Patricia was a “good cooker” as designated by her eldest grandson when he was a child. She was known for her lasagna, sweet potatoes, potato salad, and especially her world-famous carrot cake “with a touch of cinnamon – that nobody else does!”
Her favorite holiday was Easter, and she loved to celebrate the Resurrection of her Lord and Savior by hosting her entire family at her house for a meal and having a giant Easter egg hunt.
“Mom” (Aunt Pat) will always be remembered for her service to family, including, but not limited to her mother, her mother-in-law (Gladys Wadsworth Chambliss), her husband, and her special niece Sarah Gladys Allen. Patricia is a graduate of Semmes High School in 1964 and studied business at the Twentieth Century Business School in Mobile.
Due to the closing of Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile in the mid-sixties, Patricia and her family moved to Prattville where her father provided for the family by working at Maxwell Air Force Base until retirement.
Patricia Ann Wingard and Clyde Lee Chambliss were married on August 26, 1966. The couple operated the family business, “The Chambliss Store” and later ran other businesses including the Union 76 Station on Highway 31 at I-65, and a shoe shop in downtown Prattville. Later Patricia handled all family affairs while her husband worked swing shift at Union Camp Prattville Papermill. She also worked other jobs over the years including being the Librarian at Grace Baptist School.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Smith Center, PO Box 681952, Prattville, AL 36068 in honor of Sarah Gladys Allen.
