
Sallie Emily Hill, 97 of Prattville, passed away Sunday December 14, 2014. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM Wednesday at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel followed by her funeral service at 1:30 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Doug Powell and Tommy Roy officiating and her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Billingsley, where she was a longtime church member.
Mrs. Hill was born November 30, 1917 in Chilton County, Alabama to the late Samuel Dawson and Angeline Smith Dawson. She loved sewing cooking and home canning. She was well known for her good cooking and prepared meals everyday for her family and many others. During the Great Depression and the years beyond, she never turned away a hungry person from her home, be it a farm hand or one of the many homeless and lost people who endured the hardships of those days.
She was a very smart, intelligent, hardworking and wise woman who was highly respected and loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted and loving mother and wife. At the age of 65 and after raising her family and helping to run the family farm, she put her sewing skills to work as a seamstress for several years at Prattville Apparel.
Other than her parents Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by loving husband of over 55 years, Percy Hill, a son, Donald Hill, a daughter, Sara Augusta Gray, a brother, Jade Dawson, a sister, Myrtle Crumpton and sons in law Henry A. Evans, Sr. and Jack Ziglar.
She is survived by two daughters; Miriam Loretta Evans of Prattville, Myrna Diann Ziglar of Prattville, two sons and daughters in law; Robert G. and Barbara Hill of Deatsville, Tommy and Mary Sue Hill of Prattville and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other close relatives and friends
