Dave grew up in London, Ontario and went on to become a Professional Engineer. He had a naturally inquisitive mind and was always interested in understanding how things worked. Throughout his career, he enjoyed working in the lab doing research and development, where he could explore new ideas. His work led to the creation of several patents, and colleagues often remarked on his brilliant approach to problem solving.
Outside of work, Dave had many interests in the world around him. He enjoyed technology and was often the person family members called when they needed assistance. He travelled extensively and liked learning about the history of the places he visited. A movie and music enthusiast, he always seemed to have a recommendation ready and an impressive memory for quotes and trivia.
Family was always important to Dave. He was proud of his children and spoke often about his two grandchildren. One of his favourite traditions was taking the family out for Saturday morning breakfast, where he famously enforced a “bacon tax,” making sure a portion from everyone’s plate was saved for the dog. He had a lifelong affection for beagles, beginning with his beloved dog Lady and continuing with the other beagles that joined the family over the years.
Known for his quick wit and off-the-wall comments, Dave had a way of making people laugh and enjoyed a good debate. His nephews and nieces will remember that he always had bubble gum or chocolate on hand to share. He was also generous with his time, advice, and support.
In the final chapter of his life, he reminded those around him that family was the most important thing.
David Robert Huston was predeceased by his son Michael David Huston; his parents Peter Henry Huston and Marguerite Lorraine (Waddell) Huston.
He will be lovingly remembered by Vera Huston; his children Rachel Huston and Greg Huston (Nelli); grandchildren William and Emilyn; his siblings Peter (Mary) Huston, Susan Huston and John (Kim) Huston as well as extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank the Prince George Hospice Society for their care and support.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral will be held. A private interment at the Huston family plot in Ontario will take place at a future date.
