It is with heavy hearts that the MacArthur family surrender our Matriarch, Ethel MacArthur. Ethel was born in Prince George's first hospital located in the Island Cache on October 10, 1917 and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 11, 2011. Ethel was a long time resident and pioneer of the Prince George area. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 70 years, Neil MacArthur; daughters, Lorna Dittmar (Wayne); Neila Ollinger (John); Florence Cavenaile (Wayne); her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and her sister, Nelda Hein. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, Lorne and Nita Lyle, her two sisters, Lorita Larsen and Lois Veach. Ethel grew up in Aleza Lake where she met and married her husband, Neil. In 1949, the family moved to Prince George where they owned and operated several successful construction companies. One of Ethel's many successes was the publication of "The Way It Was", a history of Aleza Lake which became archived in public libraries and UNBC. Ethel was the ultimate hostess. Her recipes have become a family heirloom. The family would like to express thanks to all the caregivers who provided exceptional care for Mom in her final years. Many thanks to the staff at Hamilton House, We Care, Northern Health Home Support workers and recently, the staff at Simon Fraser Lodge. A special thanks to Dr. Schokking and his staff. Mom, we will forever miss your smile and your caring and understanding ways. A donation to the charity of your choice in Mom's name would be greatly appreciated. Private service has been held. Condolences can be forwarded to [email protected]
