Jesus Villaflor Odulio

Jesus (Jess) Villaflor Odulio was born in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija to Ricardo and Sofia Odulio. He was the youngest of ten children. He had a charismatic personality and had many friends growing up. His beautiful tenor voice also made him very popular.

He graduated from MLQ University in the Philippines with a law degree. However, his passion to work with people drew him to the insurance business. He became very successful in this field working for the Insurance Corporation of the Philippines (ICP).

At the age of 27 he met the love of his life at a family picnic. Josefina Esquivel was from a neighbouring town. They married in 1961 and had 4 children. Sadly, their second child (Jessica) died as an infant. Their other children are Jerry, Marijo and Joel. In 1972 they immigrated to Canada in pursuit of a better future. The initial years in Vancouver were a struggle, but with dedication and hard work he secured work in the same field.

In 1980, at the age of 45 he accepted Jesus Christ into his life. God worked powerfully and transformed his life. His family became active members of Grace International Baptist Church. He often sang during church services, which brought him great joy. Even through the difficult times, Jess remained faithful in the Lord. He made many sacrifices for his family to provide his children with a better education. Although faced with many struggles, God was gracious and provided all their needs.

He enjoyed many years living in Vancouver and had the opportunity to travel to many places. In 2015, he and his wife moved permanently to Prince George to be closer to their daughter and her family. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren (Cassie, Caitlin, Olivia, Luke, Karael, Jaeden, Joelle, Ozias and Amorielle). He became ill from heart failure in June 2021 and rapidly deteriorated over only a month. He died peacefully on July 8, 2021 at the age of 86 at home with his wife and daughter at his side. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 years, children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
