Survived by his wife Pauline, children Vivian, Richard and Mark. Predeceased by son David in 1980, his parents, and all siblings.
Born in Vonda Saskatchewan in 1931 he spent his early life on the family farm. After graduating he taught school in Dillan, Saskatchewan for several years before moving to BC.
In 1953, he moved to Prince George where he started work in the logging industry at a few different sawmills and logging operations.
In 1956, he married the love of his life Pauline where they lived at Buckhorn sawmill's camp and there welcomed their first son David. In 1959 they welcomed their daughter Vivian and moved to the house they built on an acreage in Marleau subdivision.
By 1962 they welcomed their second son Richard, followed by Mark in 1964. Their family was now complete.
Maurice and Pauline celebrated 70 years of marriage in the home they planned and built together.
Maurice worked a number of positions including as a faller/bucker and scaler. He also worked in a machine shop as a steel sawyer, did quality control at Lakeland and even was an apartment manager for a time. He also did some service maintenance on ATCO camp trailers.
In 1981 he formed his own company Parent Enterprises where he owned and operated a skidder and did contract work for McDermid & Lofting or others in many locations across BC. He did this until 1996 when he retired.
Once retired, he and Pauline did some travelling, took a few cruises and enjoyed their time together. Travelling to Saskatchewan to visit their children and other siblings and relatives. Especially enjoyable was time spent with their grandchildren, then great grandchildren.
Maurice was very active and well known in the community having lived in PG for 73 years. As an active knight with the Knights of Columbus organization, he was their top ticket seller for various fund-raising activities. Many people who bought tickets recognized him wherever he went and stopped to chat often.
He was the type of person who would help anyone however he could. Volunteering his time and energy was fulfilling and a calling. He will be greatly missed and remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Parish, 3285 Cathedral Ave, Prince George, BC.
