Obituario de Melvin Russel Stewart
EN EL CUIDADO DE

First Memorial Funeral Services Lakewood Chapel

Our Dad, Mel passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025. He is survived by his daughter, Jenny (Brad), son, Gord (Alison), his brother Garry (Elma), his sister-in-law Laura (Dave) and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He joins Mom, Liz and all his doggos, family and friends on their next adventure.

Jenny and I have decided to have a Celebration of Life in early summer 2025. A date and time will be sent out to family and friends in the coming months. Dad’s honorary pallbearers are: Gord Stewart (Son), Brad Harris (Son-in-law), Garry Stewart (Brother), Dave Stanley (Brother-in-law), Cory Ewasiuk (Nephew) and Derek Pierce (Friend of the Family).

A little about Dad. He was born in Carmen Manitoba, on October 16, 1939. As a kid, he was active in 4-H with his prized chickens. He loved baseball and coached a lot in Winnipeg. He was a talented artist and those skills came back to him during his battle with Dementia.

Mel met Mom, Liz McLeod, in 1964 in Winnipeg. They married, October 23, 1965 and welcomed Jenny in September 1968. They moved to Prince George, BC in 1973 and welcomed Gordie in July 1974.

Dad was very active in the community with Sunday School, Scouts, Parent Advisory Committees, and volunteered on organizations that the kids were involved with.

Dad enjoyed his dogs: Pepper, CJ, Sparky, Meeko, Eggsy and Sadie; numerous hobbies like: fishing, fly tying, wood working, softball, and putzing in the gardens.

In the 1980s Dad & Mom purchased a cabin at Cluculz Lake where they enjoyed the great outdoors and entertaining family when they came to visit.

Dad loved his Prince George Cougars! Him and Mom had season tickets for years cheering on the boys! He also liked to go and visit Gord in Edmonton where they would grab a Cougars and an Oilers game.

After Mom passed in 2019, Dad tried living at their Lorne Crescent house but eventually moved into Gateway Assisted Living in 2020 and his final move to Gateway Complex Care in 2022. According to the staff there, he was a very warm and happy man, and was really loved by the staff.

Jenny and I would like to thank all the nurses & staff at Gateway for making Dad’s time there memorable.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer/Dementia Society of B.C. in Dad’s name would be greatly appreciated.
