Pete was born on December 5, 1951, at Burns Lake Hospital to Helena and Peter Hiebert Sr. He was the middle child of eight—two brothers and five sisters—and grew up on the family farm on Hiebert Road in Grassy Plains, British Columbia. Life on the farm was full of hard work, laughter, adventure, and strong family bonds, shared with siblings, cousins, and the many friends who were always welcome there.
From a young age, Pete displayed a remarkable work ethic. He began working in logging early on, driving logging truck even before he was legally licensed. In 1975, Pete and his brother Jake founded Tweedsmuir Trucking, marking the beginning of a lifetime of entrepreneurship, achievement, and steadfast dedication to his community.
Pete became a father in 1971 with the birth of his first daughter, Tara, with his first wife, Marie Ashe. Tanya followed a few years later, and five years later Tennille arrived to complete their “Three T’s.”, Pete cherished family. He was so proud of his daughters, a loving son to his parents, deeply connected to his siblings, and an amazing uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
In the summer of 1991, Pete met the love of his life, Kimberly Conlon. Kim brought joy, laughter, and her son Christopher into Pete’s life, completing their blended family of six. Together, Pete and Kim built a life rooted in love, welcoming sons-in-law and ten treasured grandchildren. Though already part of a large family, he was lovingly regarded as “Uncle Pete” by many. Gatherings with Pete were always lively and full of music, laughter, and stories. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed and at home.
While Pete’s sense of adventure began on the farm, it truly flourished alongside Kim. Together, they explored British Columbia, travelled the world with their crew, and created countless memories with friends and family near and far.
Peter is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife of 32 years, Kimberly; their four children Tara (Lorn) Johnson, Tanya Van Tine, Tennille Radley (Stephen), and Christopher Martin (Keshia); and his ten grandchildren: Anika Marsolais (Skyler), Ryann Van Tine (Cody), Tyson Van Tine (Meghan), Connor Johnson, Sydney Van Tine, Nash Radley, Quaid Van Tine, Suri Radley, Marlowe and Lennon Martin.
He is also survived by his siblings Jake Hiebert (Brenda), Anne Rae (Jack), Shirley Creighton (Murray), Agnes Bowlby (Rick), Eydie Smith (Darrell), Gertie Southgate (Bud), and Andy Hiebert (Lori), along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Burns Lake, BC. A commemorative procession and interment of ashes will follow at the Burns Lake Municipal Cemetery. Afterwards, family and friends are invited to gather for faspa (luncheon) to share stories, and fond memories of Pete at 205 Roumieu Drive, in the Burns Lake Industrial Site.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, in gratitude to the medical team and staff of the University Hospital of Northern BC Cardiac Care Unit, whose compassion and support meant so much to Pete and his family during his final days.
Pete will be remembered for his generosity, his deep love of family, and the impression he left on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
