Constance Maxine Cooper died on Friday, December 2, 2016. She was born on April 10, 1921 in Burlington, Iowa and was the second child of Grace and Conrad Bjork. Her parents, a brother, Floyd Bjork, her husband, Harry Fred Cooper, and a daughter, Yvonne Renee Cooper Raymond, precede her in death. Connie lived with her family in Burlington and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She met her husband, Harry Fred Cooper, in Chicago as they both pursued careers - Connie as a surgical post-operative nurse and Harry as a surgeon. They were married on May 31, 1952 in Burlington, Iowa and traveled to Beckley where Harry continued his medical career at Beckley Hospital. Connie became an active member of the Beckley community volunteering and supporting the activities her family enjoyed. Connie and Harry were part of Tally Ho Stables with dear friends Phoebe and Albert Tieche and Sally and Alan Susman, participating in fairs and horse shows throughout the state. Connie was a member of the Phymosia Garden Club and served as president of the Woman's Club of Beckley. She was President of the Ladies Auxilary-Raleigh County Medical Society. An avid golfer, Connie maintained her status as a golfer and member of Black Knight Country Club. She sewed beautifully throughout her life and became a member of the Sew Sew Sisters making quilts that pleased each and every member of her family. Sewing was truly what made her smile. Connie Cooper's family was so important to her. She is survived by sons: Conrad Fred (Carol) of Beckley, Kim Bryant (Lillie) of Greensboro, NC; a daughter, Constance Melodie Cooper Martin (Tom) of Myrtle Beach, SC. Connie's 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren will remember her as energetic and always up for something fun. It is the hope of Connie's family that she be remembered for the energy she had for life. Her caregivers in her home through Mountain State Home Health gave her security and kindness. As she made her transition to The Rockin' Chair, she was met with love and admiration that kept her safe and happy. A private service honoring Connie's life will be held at a later date. Donations in Connie's memory can be made to the Beckley Area Foundation. - See more at: http://obituaries.register-herald.com/story/constance-cooper-1921-2016-853253922#sthash.TE4eGBiA.dpuf.
