Aida was born in New York, NY to Luis Gaspar Gonzalez Aldama and Lourdes Maria Simo Mota on July 28, 1968. She had one sister, Ana Cecilia Gonzalez Simo de Malloy and a half-brother George Gonzalez. She was mother to a son, Manuelangel DeJesus Villalona-Simo age 15. She spent the first three years of her life in Dominican Republic then lived in New York until age 12 when she and her family moved to Providence, RI. She lived in Orlando, FL for a few years as an adult but moved back to Providence to live out her life. During a visit to Dominican Republic, she met and married Angel Villalona, and they had a son after they divorced. Her dream for the past several years was to move to North Carolina with her son.
As a young teen Aida was a member of the Junior Naval Cadets where she participated in activities including parades. She was always interested in medicine so she went to Mt. Pleasant High School and was enrolled in their Health Magnet Program graduating in 1986. She was funny, bright and excelled at school. At age 19 she developed Hodgkin's disease for which she was successfully treated. Shortly after that ordeal she and her mother went to the Community College of RI to study Phlebotomy which became her first career. She worked as a phlebotomist for many years until she decided to try something new and was certified as a Certified Nurse Assistant. She dreamed of continuing her education by becoming a Registered Nurse however medical issues started creeping up due to the harshness of her cancer therapy. She developed breast cancer and had a double mastectomy beating this cancer as well. Shortly after that she became disabled unable to continue her education.
Aida had a huge welcoming heart, and would give someone the shirt off of her back without a second thought. Even through her ordeals, she was positive and upbeat. She wanted to learn to play guitar like her mother but never had the opportunity. She was an avid listener of rock, but also enjoyed Latin music as well as some pop. At St. Leo College where she attended for one semester in 1989, she joined the choir where she was complimented on her singing in a group. She played Queen and Classical music for her son while in her car. Another dream of hers was to take culinary classes as she loved to cook. She would make “pastelitos” (Spanish meat pies) to sell in the building she lived in. She also made jewelry and sold Mary Kay products to supplement her income.
Aida was a gamer. She liked to play World of Warcraft with her cousins from New York and was obsessed with owning and playing every Legend of Zelda game ever made. She liked going dancing and having drinks with friends. Her favorite actor was Shemar Moore and she would watch anything he was in. She also watched most of the forensic science shows like NCIS, CSI, and Criminal Minds. She liked Gilmore Girls, Game of Thrones (specifically Tyrion Lannister), and Supernatural. Her favorite cartoon characters were Tigger and Scooby Doo.
She is survived by her son Manuelangel DeJesus Villalona-Simo, her father Luis Gonzalez, her sister Ana Gonzalez-Malloy and her brother-in-law Kyle Malloy along with an extended family of close friends who loved her dearly.
She will be missed.
