Alan Edward Strauss - Anschel Eliyahu Ben Chaim Tzvi, age 69, of Providence, passed away February 8, 2025 after a brief illness at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. He was the loving husband of Deborah (Kaminsky) Strauss, with whom he shared close to 50 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell, MA, he was the son of the late Harvey and Selma (Gafin) Strauss.
Anschel was an Archeologist specializing in North American pre-history. He held both university positions and as a private contractor in New England from 1980 through 2018.
Anschel had a profound love of nature. He was an avid bird watcher, fisherman, fossil hunter, whale watcher, star gazer, lover of bears, and a fabulous chef. He also had a powerful connection to the Native American culture and community which he cultivated since being a teen.
He was deeply dedicated to his practice of Judaism and his local Jewish community. He achieved a major accomplishment of completing the study of the entire talmud and mishnah. Anschel inspired many to come close to their Jewish heritage and Torah learning.
In addition to his wife Deborah, he is survived by one son Gavriel Strauss and his wife Shayna of British Columbia; one brother Jay Strauss and his wife Erica of Burlington, Vermont and two grandchildren, Emunah and Ayla.
The funeral and burial were private. May his memory be a blessing!
