

North Providence: Whalen , Alice E. (Way), 92, of Gardner Ave, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and nursing staff on Thursday at the Elmhurst Extended Care Facility in Providence. She was the wife of the late Vincent P. Whalen. Born in Manchester,NH she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Nangle) Way.Alice was the owner of Alice's Home Decorating Service in Providence for 40 years. She later owned Alice's Hat Making and Veil Service.She was a graduate of Central High School in 1934 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhode Island College in 1977. She taught in the Bradenton Florida School System for 5 years until she retired in 1982.She was a communicant of St. Pius V. Church .She maintained a home in Bradenton, FL for 32 years until 2000 where all relatives and friends were welcome. She spent her summers with her daughter Mary and her husband Edward Fitzgerald at their home in Barrington.She is survived by her two daughters, Olive Helm of Cherry Hill, NJ and Mary Carol Fitzgerald of Barrington. She was the sister of the late Rev. Edmund J. Way , O.P., Arthur A. Way, Frank A. Way and Olive M. Donahue, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 8:30am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in St. Pius V. Church Eaton St., Providence. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery Pawtucket. Visiting hours will be Sunday 3-5 pm In lieu of flowers, donations to the Elmurst Extended Care Facility, 50 Maude St., Providence, RI 02908 or Providence College Endowment Fund, St. Martin Hall, 1 Cunningham Sq., Providence, RI 02918, in her memory would be appreciated.
