Ann Marie (Barboza) D’Alessandro, 82, of North Providence, RI, passed into eternal peace on Friday, July 5, 2024, with her devoted daughter by her side. She was born on January 6, 1942 in Warren, RI to Joe and Mary (DuPont) Barboza. Ann was raised in the Fox Point neighborhood of Providence.
She worked as a jewelry painter, for the Providence Journal, as a nursing home housekeeper, and as a home health care provider.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Jo-Ann D’Alessandro of North Providence. She is also survived by three sisters; Virginia, Dorothy, and Elizabeth; a brother, Joseph; a brother-law, Nobert; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a vast extended family. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Lisa, her soulmate and twin sister, Maryann, and her sister, Lorraine.
Ann will be remembered for her determination, generosity and care. She was a second mother and grandmother to many family members and friends. She always found a way to give when needed the most, whether it was preparing a meal, feeding the homeless whenever she could, providing a place to rest, caring for pets and beyond. Ann was an excellent cook, and her chicken cutlets, eggplant lasagna, gravy and meatballs, and grapenut pudding were always in demand. Most notably though, despite sharing the recipe, her famous pasta salad was unmatched by anyone. Ann frequently donated to animal welfare organizations, organizations to support veterans, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island, and Smile Train.
Ann took pride in keeping a clean and orderly home, as she would say, she liked to keep it “fresh fresh.” Above all, she was an avid gardener and would often be found creating beautiful flower pots, weeding, and napping in her yard after a hard day of work. Her interests also included reading, word searches, cross-word puzzles, scratch tickets, TV game shows, and occasionally indulging in junk food. Particularly, Ann enjoyed sharing malassadas with her sisters at the annual Our Lady of the Rosary Feast.
A special thank you is extended to all who provided care and support to Ann during the past six weeks. Jo-Ann would like to express deep gratitude for all at Hope Hospice who helped Ann pass with comfort and dignity, and providing the care to her mother that allowed their final moments to be spent as mother/daughter and friends.
At Ann’s request, there will not be any calling hours or services. To honor Ann’s memory, please consider donating to a charity or sharing your time in a way that will continue her legacy.
