Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late James F. and Anna (McDonnell) Burns; wife of the late Frank A. Reddington Sr.; mother of Anne E. Kelly and her husband Joseph, Mary F. O'Reilly and her husband John, and the late John, Frank A. Jr. and Elizabeth Reddington; mother-in-law of Jeanne B. Reddington and Margaret M. Reddington; grandmother of Christopher, Sean and Robert Kelly, Daniel and Brendan Reddington, Timothy, Brian and Allison O'Reilly; and great-grandmother of Wyatt Kelly.
Anne Reddington lived a full life while enriching the lives of others as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and as a home maker, secretary, friend, and colleague. Her activities were numerous, and often in the support of others.
Anne showed her green thumb as a member of the Lincoln Garden Club, and she was a very active member of St Maria Goretti Parish and prayer group where her talents for sewing and keen abilities for counting weekly collections served the parish which she loved so dearly. She was an active member of the Pawtucket Senior Citizens where she would exercise, play cards, have lunch and socialize. Anne would also exercise at Curves, played golf in the Fairlawn Women’s Golf League, walked as any opportunity would arise including later in life using her “outside walker” to walk up and down her driveway. She recently joined the Ireland 32 Society with her daughter renewing old friendships and meeting new friends.
She would enjoy frequent visits to the beach in Narragansett recounting rides in Aunt Bertha’s rumble seat during her younger years and later years in SUV’s driven by family members to Bonnet Shores, Scarborough and Sand Hill Cove. Anne would enjoy trips to the campground to stay with family and friends enjoying the company of so many who equally enjoyed her company. She enjoyed family breakfast outings at Franks Restaurant and the annual Memorial Day breakfast in Saylesville.
Anne was in her glory as the grandmother of eight grandchildren and great grandmother to Wyatt. She was a special grandmother who would attend the many swim meets, soccer, baseball, football, basketball, and field hockey games of all her grandchildren. Anne would cheer them on from the sidelines despite later in life developing failing hearing and eyesight sensing the plays and the sound of victory or the ominous tone of defeat. The grandchildren always knew grandma was watching over them when on the field, court or in the pool. She never missed a recital, concert, award ceremony, graduation, parade and always loved the opportunity to share some special one on one time with each grandchild. She was known for her ability to pitch countless wiffle balls to the grandchildren in the back yard while offering after school care helping out the working parents.
As a skilled card player, she taught her grandchildren how to play cards teaching them how to win, and often teaching them how to lose, graciously. Early they were taught the game “Memory” and later they found that Hi-lo Jack was Grandma’s strong suit. Along the way, they learned much about love and life.
Anne had a strong mind and indelible memory with an uncanny ability to remember the many people she had met including the friends of her sons, daughters, and grandchildren. She would remember each detail of a person’s life and kindly inquire about a success and always offer positive support during a time of tribulation. She had a special charm making everyone she would meet feel special, because in her eyes, you were. Anne Reddington was a beautiful woman and the world is a better place for her having lived these ninety two years. She will be sorely missed.
