

Arthur W. Jolin, Jr., 89, of Greenville, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of March 24, 2014. He was the husband of the late Mary (Monti) Jolin, whom he cherished. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur W. Sr. and Jane (Haggerty) Jolin.
Mr. Jolin is survived by his loving sons, Arthur W. Jolin, III of Greenville and his companion Colleen Varao of Bourne, MA and Joseph Jolin and his wife Robin of Cranston. He also leaves behind his devoted sisters Margaret Hewitt of Warwick and Helen Marsella and her husband John also of Warwick. He was the brother of the late James Jolin.
Arthur served his country proudly in World War II and Korea, reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. In the early 1950’s, he began his career in education. During his tenure, he touched the lives of many of his students at Westport High School, Burrillville High School and CCRI. He was a mentor and role model for all his students.
As a devout Catholic, he was caring, kind, thoughtful and nonjudgmental to all. In his quiet and humble way his compassion and generosity was felt by many. His legacy will remain in the hearts of those he encountered. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Thursday 4-7 p.m. in the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Ave., Providence. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Providence Journal Summertime Fund for Children, 75 Fountain Street, Providence, RI 02902.
