

Providence: Donoghue, Charles E., 86, of 700 Smith St., passed away on Saturday at Elmhurst Extended Care Facility. He was the husband of Jane F.(McNeill) Donoghue.Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Edward and Sarah (Winn) Donoghue.Charles was a firefighter for the Providence Fire Department from 1946-1971. He was a member of the Providence Firefighters IAFF Local 799, the Providence Permanent Firemen's Relief Association and the Retired Providence Police and Firefighters Association.He was employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield from 1975 until he retired in 1990.He was a World War II Navy veteran who served aboard the Navy Ship, USS Boston. He was a member of the Jewish Brotherhood.Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Stephen E. Donoghue of Providence, Michael E. Donoghue of Wisconsin, Kevin P. Donoghue, PFD of Narragansett and Eileen M. Donoghue of Old Lyme,CT; his sister, Alice Shanley of Danbury, CT and two grandchildren, Kayla and Sean Donoghue. He was the father of the late Joseph Donoghue.His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:45 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St. Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in St. Pius V. Church, Eaton, Providence. Burial with military honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.Visiting hours Wednesday, 4-8 pm.In lieu of flowers, donations to the Providence Permanent Fireman's Relief Association, 90 Printery St., Providence, RI 02904, in his memory would be appreciated.
