

ProvidenceCharles B. Galligan, Sr., 88, of Providence, died peacefully Tuesday surrounded by his loving family at the Tockwotton Home. He was the husband of the late Nancy E. (Maher) Galligan. Born in Providence, a son of the late Charles S. and Mary (Sharkey) Galligan, he was a lifelong city resident, and summered in Matunuck for many years. He was the fourth generation of his family to reside on Armstrong Avenue in the Fox Point neighborhood. Mr. Galligan was the general manager for Flynn Towel & Supply Company for twenty-five years, and later was the Veterans Representative for the State of Rhode Island, Department of Employment Security, for twenty years before retiring in 1992. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WW II, and was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Boston University. Charles was a communicant of Saint Sebastian Church, Providence, for over fifty years, and a summer communicant of Saint Romuald Chapel, Matunuck. He also served on the Saint Sebastian Church Parish Council, and was a member of the Parish Christian Couples Club. He also enjoyed participating in the Saint Matthew Church Bowling League. He leaves a son, Charles B. Galligan, Jr. and his wife Denise; a daughter, Dr. Ann M. Galligan; two grandchildren, Timothy W. Galligan and Julianna E. Galligan; many loving nieces and nephews, and his loving Boston Terrier, Pepper. He was a brother of the late John J. Galligan. The funeral will be held Friday, at 10:00 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Sebastian Church, Cole Avenue, Providence. Burial will be in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Thursday, 5 - 7 pm.
