Charles H. Kershaw III, 81, passed peacefully at home in Contoocook, NH on December 14, 2017. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 16, 1936, he was the son of the late Charles and Florence (Heightshoe) Kershaw. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Brown University and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Before joining the Air Force, he practiced Family Medicine in Barrington, RI for fifteen years. He was a flight surgeon and commander during his 22 years of military service, retiring as a Colonel. Chuck was a member of the DeMolay where he served as a Master Counselor and became a member of the Masons. Chuck grew up sailing at the Hummocks in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, racing his Candy Boat in Tiverton Bay, and enjoying fishing. He raised Appaloosa horses on his farm in Rehoboth, MA and was a member of two riding associations. He played guitar and wrote and sang many songs for retiring military servicemen. Chuck loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his golden retrievers. He was a dedicated family physician and, in his early career, could be seen making house calls in his horse and buggy. He was a kind, caring man, who shared his wonderful sense of humor with his family and friends. His laughter could be heard down the halls of his office and into the hearts of those around him. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Hall) Kershaw of Contoocook, New Hampshire, daughters Cheryl and her husband, Hoke Shirley, of Concord, New Hampshire; Kathryn and her husband, Eric Stillman, of Gulf Breeze, Florida; and Susan and her husband, Jerry Butts, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. He adored and dearly loved his eight grandchildren; Kayla, Kristen, Charles, and Connor Shirley; Aubree and Josh Stillman; Jessica Butts, and Jennifer (Butts) Balogh. Calling hours will be held at Russell J Boyle and Son Funeral Home in Providence, Rhode Island, 331 Smith Street on December 29th, 2017 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
