Charles Joseph Michaud

EAST GREENWICH - Michaud, Charles J., 90 died Wednesday at Kent Hospital. He had resided in East Greenwich for over 35 years until a recent move to Warwick. He was born in Salem Massachusetts. After studying engineering at Northeastern University, he began a 44-year career with General Electric in the 1930s where he held engineering, marketing, and international management positions until his retirement. During WWII he worked on team building Liberty Ships for the war effort. After leaving GE he founded and sold a number of businesses in commercial printing, construction, and real estate development located in Rhode Island and Florida finally retiring at 80. During his 70s he also was an emergency reservist for Federal Emergency Management Agency and was deployed to assist in numerous post-disaster reconstruction efforts.Mr. Michaud was a member of the Peloquin Choral and the choir of the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul in Providence. He traveled with both groups extensively to perform liturgical music. He also was scoutmaster for Boy Scout troops in Charlotte North Carolina and Stratford Connecticut. Mr. Michaud was an avid yachtsman. He had been a member of the Housatonic and East Greenwich Yacht clubs where he was involved in the junior sailing programs and club racing. In the 1990s his sailing interests turned to ocean cruising. Sailing out of Newport aboard "Amadeus", he was a frequent visitor to Martha's Vineyard, Maine, and the Caribbean. During later years he turned to single-handed sailing on Narragansett Bay aboard his beloved "Alouette". He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Yvette E. (Plourde); two sons, Charles Phillip Michaud of Attleboro and Dennis Wright Michaud of Providence; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4pm and Monday from 9-11am at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11am at Saint Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Rd., Warwick.
