

Born in Georgetown, Texas, he was the son of the late Francisco and Lola (Tafoya) Ramos.
Demetrio “Tex” Ramos was the beloved husband of Beatrice (Menezes) Ramos and the devoted father to Mark Ramos, Michael Ramos, Matthew Ramos, John Ramos, Mary (Ramos) Holton, Amanda (Ramos) Martin, and David Ramos. He adored his daughters-in-law Jean (Carrier) Ramos, Deb (Laramee) Ramos, Suzanne (Houle) Ramos and Jodi (DeSantis) Ramos; and his sons-in-law David Martin and William Holton He was a proud and doting grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews, as well as a paternal figure to countless others whose lives he touched with his warmth and generosity. His large and devoted family was the world to him, he also leaves behind his beloved dog Dusty.
A proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, Tex served as a missileman at the Nike Site in Bristol, RI. He was responsible for fueling Nike missiles and also served as a driver for the base chaplain.
After his Army service and marriage in Bristol to Beatrice, they moved to Georgetown, Texas, where he worked as a florist at The Flower Nook. In 1961, they returned to Rhode Island, where they lived in Bristol for a time and then relocated to Providence. Tex worked at Imperial Knife in Providence and at CalArt (California Artificial Flowers) in Cranston. Later, he was a member of Laborers Union Local 271, employed as a construction worker.
From 1970 through the 1980s, Tex coached in the Silver Lake/Olneyville Little League in Providence and served on its Board. His love of baseball was lifelong, and even though he grew up in Texas, he was forever a diehard Red Sox fan. Tex also played amateur baseball, hanging up his spikes finally at age 73.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Lucy (Ramos) Lozano, and brothers Emilio Ramos, John Ramos, and Bob Ramos.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Children’s Hospital Boston are suggested.
Relatives and friends are invited to call the family from 9:00-10:00 am on Thursday, July 24 in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am followed by Interment with full milItary honors at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
